Free Vocal Presets for Logic Pro

What's in the Logic pack

Ten presets in seven categories, delivered as Logic Pro patches (.patch). Channel EQ, Compressor, DeEsser 2, ChromaVerb, Gain and, on a few presets, ChromaGlow and Flanger. All stock, all included with Logic Pro.

Made in Logic Pro 11 on Mac. A few presets use ChromaGlow, which only exists in Logic Pro 11 or newer; older versions load the rest of the chain and skip that slot.

How to install vocal presets in Logic Pro

Quick answer: Unzip the pack, drag the Logic Pro folder into Music → Audio Music Apps → Patches → Audio, open Logic, select your vocal track, press Y and pick the preset under User Patches.

   Download and unzip the pack

   Get the pack with the form above. Inside the zip, open the folder named "Vocal Magic - Starter Pack - Logic Pro". Each preset is a .patch bundle that contains the whole channel strip.

   Open the Logic patches folder

   In Finder, go to your home folder, then Music, then Audio Music Apps, then Patches, then Audio. If the Patches or Audio folder does not exist yet, create it with exactly those names.

   Drag the preset folder in

   Drag the whole "VOCAL MAGIC - Starter Pack" folder into the Audio folder. Keep the folder structure: the category folders become sub-menus in Logic’s Library.

   Load a preset in Logic

   Open Logic, click your vocal track’s header, and press Y to open the Library. Look under User Patches for VOCAL MAGIC - Starter Pack, open a category and click a preset. The entire chain loads onto the track.

   Set the input and adjust to your voice

   The compressors expect a healthy input level, so use the Gain plugin at the top of the chain to get the vocal peaking around -6 dBFS before it hits the compressor. Then tweak Channel EQ to taste and save your version as a new patch.

If the presets don't show up

• Nothing under User Patches: quit and reopen Logic. It reads the Patches folder on launch.
• The Library is empty: click the track header first. The Library shows patches for the selected track only.
• The files are still zipped: a .patch is a folder-like bundle. If you see a .zip inside the pack, unzip it before copying.
• A plugin slot says it is missing: that preset uses ChromaGlow, which needs Logic Pro 11. The rest of the chain still works.

Which Logic Pro versions work?

Logic Pro 11 loads every preset. Older versions of Logic Pro X load everything except the ChromaGlow slot used on a few presets.

Are these channel strip settings or patches?

Patches (.patch). A patch wraps the full channel strip, so it installs in one place and loads from the Library with a single click. It also works in GarageBand on Mac, which uses the same folder.

Can I use these presets in GarageBand?

Yes. GarageBand reads the same Patches folder. Use the GarageBand page for the exact steps, or drop the GarageBand version of the pack into the same folder.

Are the presets really free?

What is in the pack?

Ten vocal presets in seven categories: Bright & Modern (Chart Talk, Clarity), Warm & Smooth (Red Velvet), Punchy & Aggressive (Soundcloud Clout), Clean & Natural (Pro Podcaster, Studio Standard), Creative FX (Dream Delay), Artist Inspired (The Singer, The Rapper) and Vocal Rescue (Harshness Be Gone). They are the starter versions of the presets in Vocal Magic.

Will a preset make my vocal sound professional on its own?

A preset is a finished chain, not a finished mix. Record cleanly at a sensible level, pick the category that matches your voice and genre, then adjust the EQ and the compressor threshold to your recording. The free vocal analyzer will tell you which band is off if you are unsure.
