What's in the Ableton pack

Ten presets in seven categories, delivered as Ableton audio effect racks (.adg). Utility, Compressor, EQ Eight, Delay, Reverb and Limiter on every preset, with Multiband Dynamics, Saturator, Chorus-Ensemble, Phaser-Flanger, Overdrive and Auto Shift where the sound calls for it. All stock Live devices.

Made in Live 12. Most presets use the Auto Shift pitch device, which only exists in Live 12 or newer; on Live 11 the rack loads with that device shown as missing and the rest of the chain works.

How to install vocal presets in Ableton Live

Quick answer: Open Live → User Library → Presets → right-click “Presets” → Show in Finder / Show in Explorer → drag the .adg files into that folder.

   Download and unzip the pack

   Get the pack with the form above. Inside the zip, open the folder named "Vocal Magic - Starter Pack - Ableton". Every preset is an .adg audio effect rack.

   Open the User Library presets folder from inside Live

   In Live’s Browser, go to User Library → Presets. Right-click "Presets" and choose Show in Finder on Mac or Show in Explorer on Windows. Live opens the exact folder.

   Drag the preset folder in

   Drag the whole "VOCAL MAGIC - Starter Pack" folder into the folder Live opened. The category folders become sub-folders in the Browser.

   Load a rack on your vocal track

   Back in Live, go to User Library → Presets → VOCAL MAGIC - Starter Pack, open a category and drag a rack onto your vocal track, or double-click it with the track selected. The full chain loads as one rack.

   Set the input and adjust to your voice

   The Utility device at the front of each rack is there for input gain: get the vocal peaking around -6 dBFS before the first Compressor. Then adjust EQ Eight to your voice and save the rack under your own name.

If the presets don't show up

• Presets do not appear: restart Live, or click the refresh arrow at the top of the Browser.
• Still zipped: unzip the .adg files before copying. Live ignores zip archives.
• A device shows as missing: that preset uses Auto Shift, which needs Live 12. The rest of the rack still works.
• Presets from another DAW: FL Studio .fst and Logic .patch files will not load in Live. Use the Ableton folder of the pack.

Which Ableton Live versions work?

Live 12 loads every preset. Live 11 loads the racks but shows the Auto Shift device as missing, because that device was introduced in Live 12.

Are these .adg or .adv files?

.adg audio effect racks. Each rack holds the whole vocal chain, so you install one file per preset and get every device in the right order.

Does this work on Windows?

Yes. Ableton racks are the same file on macOS and Windows; only the folder-opening step differs (Show in Finder versus Show in Explorer).

Are the presets really free?

They are the starter versions of the presets in Vocal Magic.

Will a preset make my vocal sound professional on its own?

A preset is a finished chain, not a finished mix. Record cleanly at a sensible level, pick the category that matches your voice and genre, then adjust the EQ and the compressor threshold to your recording. The free vocal analyzer will tell you which band is off if you are unsure.
