What's in the GarageBand pack

Ten presets in seven categories, delivered as GarageBand patches (.patch). Channel EQ, Compressor, DeEsser 2, reverb, delay and Gain, using the plugins GarageBand shares with Logic Pro. Anything GarageBand does not support is skipped when the patch loads.

GarageBand on Mac. GarageBand for iPhone and iPad cannot load Mac patches.

How to install vocal presets in GarageBand

Quick answer: Music → Audio Music Apps → Patches → Audio → drag the presets in → restart GarageBand → load from the Library (Y) under User Patches.

   Download and unzip the pack

   Get the pack with the form above. Inside the zip, open the folder named "Vocal Magic - Starter Pack - Garageband". Each preset is a .patch bundle.

   Open the patches folder

   In Finder, go to your home folder, then Music, then Audio Music Apps, then Patches, then Audio. Create the Patches and Audio folders if they are not there yet.

   Drag the preset folder in

   Drag the whole "VOCAL MAGIC - Starter Pack" folder into the Audio folder. Keep the category folders; they show up as groups in the Library.

   Load a preset in GarageBand

   Open GarageBand, click your vocal track, and press Y to open the Library. Look under User Patches, open a category and click a preset. GarageBand loads every effect and setting it supports.

   Set the input and adjust to your voice

   Record with the input meter peaking in the yellow, not the red. Then open the track’s Smart Controls or plugins to adjust EQ and compression to your voice.

If the presets don't show up

• Nothing under User Patches: quit and reopen GarageBand. It loads new patches on launch.
• The Library is empty: click the vocal track first. The Library only shows patches for the selected track.
• Presets buried too deep: keep them one folder level inside Patches/Audio, not nested several folders down.
• A plugin is skipped: GarageBand cannot load every Logic-only plugin. The rest of the chain still applies.

Does this work on GarageBand for iPad or iPhone?

No. The iOS versions of GarageBand cannot import Mac patches. These presets are for GarageBand on Mac.

Are these the same presets as the Logic Pro pack?

Same chains, saved so GarageBand can read them. GarageBand loads the plugins and settings it supports and skips anything Logic-only.

Do I need Logic Pro installed?

No. GarageBand includes the stock plugins these presets use and reads the same Patches folder Logic uses.

Are the presets really free?

They are the starter versions of the presets in Vocal Magic.

Will a preset make my vocal sound professional on its own?

A preset is a finished chain, not a finished mix. Record cleanly at a sensible level, pick the category that matches your voice and genre, then adjust the EQ and the compressor threshold to your recording. The free vocal analyzer will tell you which band is off if you are unsure.
